Insert Figure and Caption
Insert Figure + Caption
Productivity ⚡ tab → Snippets group
Wraps the element at the cursor in an HTML5 <figure> element with a <figcaption> — the semantically correct way to caption images and other illustrative content.
To insert a figure
- Click inside the element you want to wrap — typically an image, or the paragraph containing it.
- Click Insert Figure + Caption on the Productivity ⚡ tab.
- The element is wrapped in
<figure>...<figcaption>...</figcaption></figure>and the topic reloads in the editor. - Type your caption into the
figcaption.
Caption seeding
When the element is an image (or a paragraph whose only content is a single image), the caption is pre-filled from the image's alt text, so well-tagged images caption themselves. Otherwise the caption starts empty.
Notes
- A backup of the topic is created before the change (see Backup and Restore).
- Structural elements (
html, head, body), existing figures, and anything already inside a figure cannot be wrapped — you get a clear message instead. - How the figure and caption look is up to your stylesheet — the plugin adds clean markup, no styling.
- Pair with Set ALT Texts: good alt text first, then captions come for free.
