Change Case

UPPERCASE · lowercase · Sentence case · Title Case · Change Heading Case

Cleanup ⚡ tab → Styling group

Word-style case transforms for Flare: change the case of the selected text (or the element the cursor sits in), or normalize the case of every heading in a folder or the whole project.

Change the case of selected text

  1. Select the text you want to change — or just click inside the element.
  2. On the Cleanup ⚡ tab, click UPPERCASE, lowercase, Sentence case, or Title Case.

Notes on the transforms:

  • Sentence case and Title Case leave words with two or more capitals (acronyms like PDF, names like McDonald) as-is.
  • Title Case keeps small words (a, an, the, of, in, on, to, for, ...) lowercase, except as the first or last word.
  • MadCap variables, snippets, xrefs and code are never touched, and inline formatting (bold, italics, links) survives.
  • A plain-text selection is changed directly in the editor, so Flare's normal Ctrl+Z undoes it. When the selection spans markup, the change is applied to the file (with a backup first) and the topic reloads.

Change Heading Case (batch)

Normalize every heading (h1–h6) in the project or a folder to Sentence case or Title Case:

  1. Click Change Heading Case.
  2. Choose the scope: Whole project or a specific folder.
  3. Choose the mode: Sentence case or Title Case.
  4. Optionally tick Dry run to only produce the change report without changing any files.
  5. Click Run.

What you get:

  • A change report (opened automatically) listing every heading change per file — "before" -> "after" — so you can review proper nouns and acronyms.
  • On a real run: a backup ZIP of exactly the changed files, source-control check-out, and an Undo (restore backup) button in the dialog that restores everything from the backup.
  • Topics and snippets in scope are processed; files with invalid XML are skipped and listed in the report.

Notes

  • Variables at the start of a heading count as the first word, so a heading that begins with a variable does not get a stray capital on the following word.
  • Attribute values, index keywords, and bookmark anchors are never touched.
  • Start with a dry run on Title Case — the report is the fastest way to spot product names that need manual attention.
