Replace Tags in Topic or Project

Replace Tags in Topic · Replace Tags in Project

Cleanup ⚡ tab → Tag Replacer group

Replace one tag/class combination with another — in the current topic, or across a folder of topics and snippets.

Tags are matched on their class attribute; all other attributes remain untouched. For example, if you replace

<b class="Apples"></b>

with

<span class="Bananas"></span>

any b element with the class "Apples" is replaced but keeps its other attributes:

<b class="Apples" id="Golden Delicious"></b>

becomes

<span class="Bananas" id="Golden Delicious"></span>

Replace tags in the current topic

  1. Open the topic.
  2. Click Replace Tags in Topic.
  3. Select the tag you want to replace.
  4. Select the tag you'd like to use instead.
  5. Select the appropriate setting:
    • To replace one tag with another, select Replace tags.
    • To unbind the tag and only keep its content, select Unbind tags.
    • To delete the tag and its contents, select Delete tags and content.
  6. Click Execute.

If you want to undo the changes before you close the window, click Undo.

Replace tags across the project (or a folder)

  1. Click Replace Tags in Project. The folder defaults to your project's Content folder — browse to a subfolder to narrow the scope.
  2. To include all sub-folders, select Include sub-folders.
  3. Select the tag you want to replace.
  4. Select the tag you'd like to use instead.
  5. Select the appropriate setting (Replace / Unbind / Delete, as above).
  6. Click Execute. A backup ZIP file is created before the changes are applied.

If you want to undo the changes before you close the window, click Undo — the backup is restored.

Notes

  • Files that are not valid XML are skipped; the log in the window tells you which ones, so an "incomplete" tag list is never silent.
  • In very large projects (more than 20,000 files) the tag list is built from a random sample of files — the log discloses this. The replacement itself always processes all files in scope.
  • For free-text or REGEX-based replacement, see Advanced Tag Replacer.
